Molds are invaluable tools for the compounding pharmacy. They come in a variety of shapes and sizes and can be unique to a specific patient’s needs or preferred route of administration. However, the process of choosing the right mold for a patient’s dosage form can be difficult with so many choices available. Here we have compiled information about the most popular molds PCCA offers to help you make the best choice for your patients.

Important Information Regarding Mold Calibrations

PCCA members should refer to our general formulas for the specific mold they are using (see tables below). The blank-weight calibration is listed as a pre-procedure note, and calculations were based on this calibration. However, it is important for you to calibrate your own specific mold as there may be some variances between molds.

Stacey Lemus, BS, became a compounding technician in 2000. She worked with a PCCA member pharmacy for more than 10 years before joining the PCCA Formulation Development team in 2012. Her work at PCCA focuses on new formula development as well as updating and testing existing formulations. Her experience with equipment, compounding techniques and calculations makes her a valuable resource for member technical calls. She received her BS in biology and chemistry from Texas A&M University – Kingsville.

Courtaney Davis, BBA, is a senior formulation specialist and technical consultant with more than 18 years’ combined experience in the compounding industry. She joined PCCA’s Formulation Development department in 2005, where she assists in the creation of new formulas and the updating and revising of existing formulas. Courtaney also works closely with our Research and Development team to bring innovative products to our membership. Prior to joining PCCA’s staff, she worked for a member pharmacy as a certified technician.
